Your Neighborhood at a Glance: The East River Greenway
The East River Greenway, an empty gap that runs from East 38th Street to East 60th Street, is the subject of a bold initiative which seeks to build a world-class waterfront esplanade and greenway in the area. This is set to become the backbone of an incredible transportation network on the East Side, something that is sorely needed.
While the plan is still a long ways away from coming to fruition, the ideas for what the proposed esplanade are worth sharing with you. These visions by architects and designers alike are now on display at the Baruch College Newman Library in an exhibit entitled Close the Gap, running from now until February 28th.
Mayor Bloomberg has already signed off on an agreement which will allow the city to work out a real estate deal with the United Nations in order to generate the necessary funding for the project, so within the new few years, these possibilities should become reality. So, head on down to the Newman Library at Baruch College and be one of the first to see this incredible exhibit.
