Your Neighborhood at a Glance: A Night of Ask Roulette in SoHo
Ever heard of Chat Roulette? It was the infamous internet sensation where you can click a button and randomly video chat with anyone in the world, and you continuously click that button to bring up a seemingly infinite amount of new faces. It was huge, the Jonas Brothers even participated! Well, a bookstore café in SoHo is hosting a new live event called Ask Roulette. The game is simple, a stranger can ask you any question they want, and then you must answer in front of a live audience. The catch is that you can only ask a question once you answer one, so it’s a game built on trust. You’re not forced to participate, you can simply be an observer if you prefer.
The free event is being held Wednesday, February 1st, at 7pm at the Housingworks Bookstore Café, located at 126 Crosby Street in SoHo, and it is sure to be an interesting experience. The special guests are Starlee Kine of This American Life, David Carr of the New York Times, Kurt Braunohler of Hot Tub Comedy, and comedian Dave Hill. There’s also a house band, Eli Bolin and the Amazing Jellies.
The questions are wide-ranging and unpredictable, from serious to ridiculous, and the answers are often thoughtful, honest, funny and revealing. Past Ask Roulette events have been enjoyable and unique, as people make new connections and hear personal stories and anecdotes to which they can relate. It seems like a great place to gather with friends or to meet other singles, or maybe even take an adventurous date. At the very least, there will be plenty of laughs.
RSVP on Facebook to attend.
