Get Ready for NYC’s Very Own Groundhog Day
Yes, New York City has it’s own Groundhog’s Day ceremony, and according to an investigative report, Punxsutawney Phil has nothing on Staten Island Chuck! The event is being held on Thursday, February 2nd, at the Staten Island Zoo, and admission is free. The gates open at 6:30am and visitors can expect an appearance from Mayor Bloomberg and a live music performance from the chorus at PS22. There’s also a special breakfast with Staten Island Chuck after the ceremony.
Be there to see the weather-forecasting groundhog determine if we’ll have a short winter or if it will be another six weeks until Spring. If today’s near 60 degree weather is an inclination, we shouldn’t expect six more weeks of winter. We shall see.
