“I <3 New York” comes to life in Times Square in honor of Valentines Day.

In case you were wondering what that giant, glowing red heart is in the middle of Times Square lately, it’s in place to help measure your affection for that special someone when in the sculpture’s presence.  Deemed “Big (heart) NYC,” it stands at 10 feet tall and is illuminated by 400 LED lights.  So what’s the science behind this, you ask?  The heart shaped sculpture literally shines brighter and beats faster the more people touch the sensor disguised as a giant heart.  It’s glow is supposed to intensify depending on each hug and embrace shared around the cube.  The larger than life heart installation is brought to us by the Times Square Alliance and architecture firm, BIG, and will be there to measure love’s pulse until February 29th.  If you think this tangible incarnation of the universal symbol of love will help to bring you a life long of happiness, you’re invited to participate in a ceremony where couples can renew their vows during a live broadcast and share their personal stores and testimonies to love in front of a live audience.

Perhaps what should aid in illuminating the heart the most is the fact that Think Energy will be donating $1 to the Hope & Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund for each visitor who posts a photo of themselves next to “Big heart NYC” to their Facebook page.
