Chock full of international and artisan food stores, Brooklyn has everything you need to cook a gourmet meal of your own without needing to travel to another borough to fetch some of the more particular ingredients. Whether you’re getting prepared to host a highly anticipated end of summer fete, or a quiet night in, you’ll find everything you need at one of these specialty local shops.

Bklyn Larder

This place is a foodies paradise manifested into an assortment worldly cheeses, olives, homemade gelati, pastas, international imported beans, fresh, organic milk, cured meats, chocolates, luxury condiments and much more. Many know and love whole foods for their prepared foods, but one taste of Bklyn Larder’s selections and you’ll see what remaining an independent store vs turning into a chain will to do the integrity of the food. Something you must try is the pistachio loaf cake dressed with candied pistachios.

Bklyn Lader is located at 228 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket

There’s no better way to spend a Saturday morning than here. Its modest size helps to make it feel manageable and less intimidating. Everything is local, which means everything is also seasonal so you should be open to incorporating some substitute items on your list if you can find exactly what you need.  Fresh eggs, milk, bread, herbs and spices are at your fingertips all year round at this market.

Fleisher’s Grassfed and organic meats

If you recognize the sweet, delicious taste of their products it’s because you’ve most likely tasted it at renowned restaurants like Gramercy Tavern and Mario Batali’s Casa Mono. What sets their meat apart is the fact that they only carry pastured meat from animals raised on farms within 50 miles of their original Kingston, NY shop.  Each farm is sustainable and small, and all animals are fed a vegetarian diet. They also provide 100% grass fed beef. The prices only reflect the true artisanship and care that go into their products.

Fleisher’s Park Slop is located at 192 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

Fish Tales Gourmet Seafood Market

For the level of freshness their fish and seafood delivers, you would never guess it’s located in the middle of Brooklyn. All of their fish tastes as if it came right off the boat from a dock directly behind the store. Here you can get your fix of Long Island oysters, steamers, little neck clams, swordfish, cod, and much more.

Fish Tales is located at 191-a Court Street Brooklyn, NY (Boerum Hill)
