A 24-hour Sweet-Tooth Fix

The cupcake craze just became automatic, allowing those late-night emergency sugar cravings to be satisfied. Sprinkles Cupcakes, located on Lexington Avenue between 60th and 61st Street, has made an annoucement that is sure to please NYC cupcake connoisseurs. This summer, the bakery will be installing three 24-hour cupcake ATMs across the city. They’re calling them “Cupcake Automats” and while exact locations haven’t been determined yet, there will be one placed Downtown, one in Midtown, and one on the Upper West Side

The Sprinkles bakery on Lexington is the only one in the city, so this is a great way to avoid the long lines and still get in on the world-renowned Sprinkles craftsmanship. The innovative idea for cupcake ATMs comes from the cupcake creative mind of company founder, Candace Nelson, who happens to also be a judge on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.” In other words, her expertise on the subjects of cupcakes is undeniable.

The Cupcake Automats will be packed with a few hundred freshly baked designer cupcakes at a time. We’re not sure how many flavors will be available, but Sprinkles offers a wide variety of different cakes that are all delicious. We’re hoping our favorites chai latte, banana, lemon coconut, and peanut butter chocolate will be available in the ATMs, so we can satisfy our own after-hours cravings.

Spring has sprung on Park Ave

Each year since 1980, the Fund for Park Avenue has been responsible for the beautifying and maintenance of the Park Avenue Malls.  Flowers, plants and sculptures are carefully chosen to adorn the many strips of green space along New York’s most storied and iconic Avenue.  Street revelers typically aren’t graced with the flowers’ presence until some time in April, but this years extraordinarily mild winter (or lack thereof winter…) has sprouted these little signs of spring into early bloom.  The 60,000 yellow tulips we’ll soon see blanketing the middle grounds of Park Ave are Darwin hybrid and Golden Oxford.  When enjoying the tulips don’t forget to stop by our Flagship Office on Park Avenue at 499 Park on the 14th & 15th floors.

The Met Gets a Makeover

The famed Metropolitan Museum of Art isn’t just a New York City landmark, it is a world renowned and cultural icon.  Home to two million square feet of over an equally remarkable two million objects, the Met boasts more than just a handful of the greatest art collections of all time, from all over the world.  The doors to the Met opened to the public on November 20, 1870 and since then has become acclaimed for hosting the largest collection of Egyptian art outside of Cairo, a total of 36,00 ancient Egyptian objects.  This legendary  New York institution also boasts the world’s most comprehensive collection of American art including paintings, sculptures and decorative objects, in addition to hosting one of the greatest known European painting collections in the world.

With a list of superlatives that include more than what’s mentioned above, one would ponder where there’d be room for improvement? Whether you’re a mainstay on the infamous steps, or have only visited a handful of times yet still appreciate the current outside façade, the grandeur and stately appearance of the museum which spans four blocks along the storied Upper East Side portion of Fifth Avenue from 80th street to 84th street, is slated to undergo a comprehensive makeover.  The goal is to create “a more efficient, pleasing, and environmentally friendly space.”  The museums director and chief executive has stated the prominent goal is to “create an appropriate entrance to the greatest encyclopedia museum in the world” further stating the current estate like entrance is “austere and forbidding.”  The main precursor to the vast transformation is the fact that the Met’s attendance has increased by more than 50% since it was last revamped in 1968.

If all goes as planned, by 2014 the plaza will be redone to resemble the surrounding gardens at the Palais Royal in Paris.  New retractable benches, more seating, beautiful new water shows from new fountains, enhanced topiary to better serve the impressive amount of summer revelers are all part of the new plan.  So we ask you, do you think the Met should be changed at all, or stay the same in honor of history?

Famous Upper East Side museum, The Frick Collection, opens its first new gallery in the last 35 years.  It’s just a one room addition, but it offers spectacular new pieces to be in awe of, and adds another reason to love this museum

Only in New York can you have one of the premier entertainment facilities underneath a bridge.  Guastavino’s will be tonight’s venue of Halstead Property’s Holiday PartyBuilt under the famous 59th street bridge, the venue is a must see with its intricate architecture, granite arches, and vaulted ceilings.  One could argue that the most fascinating element about the venue is the glass-front bar that glows as it changes colors to reflect the mood of the party.  The color will more than likely reflect success in celebration of yet another banner year for the Halstead Property brand.

A perfect way to indulge in a cold weather treat this season in New York City is at the famous Upper East Side establishment, Serendipity 3 restaurant, made pop culture famous by the feature film “Serendipity” starring Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack.  Enjoy the original and world-renowned frozen hot-chocolate.  It is just one of those things that should be on a ‘bucket list’.

If you’re unsure how you’d like to decorate your home for the upcoming Holiday season, head to the Holiday House for some inspiration.  Rooms in a mansion located on the Upper East Side have been transformed into show rooms, and are decorated to reflect certain Holidays while aiming to inspire visitors with design and decorating ideas.  You can feel good about your visit too, because proceeds from the entrance fees benefit the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  The event runs through December 11, and is located at 2 East 63rd St.  More info can be found here.

The Verdict is in- The best macaron in the city (or the country?) can now be found on the Upper East Side at newly opened Ladurée, where said confectionary delights are shipped from Paris not once, but three times a week.  “The venerated French pâtisserie was founded in 1862 and is credited with the invention of the macaron “sandwich” in the early 1900s.”  Laduree is located at 70th and Madsion Ave.
